Brinjal Rice



1 kg small brinjals   1tsp coriander seeds
1/2kg Basmati rice   6 peppercorns
2tbsps channa dal   1 tsp cummin seeds
2 tbsps urad dal   1/2cup tamarind juice
2 tbsps chilli powder  a pinch of asafoetida
1/2tsp turmeric powder   [oil as needed]
2 tsps mustard seeds  salt to taste


* Cook the rice in boiling water .Drain and keep aside.
* Dry roast the dals ,chilli powder ,turmeric, coriander, peppercorns and cumin seeds with asafoestida and powder them.
* In 2 tbsps oil fry the mustard seeds. Add the tamarind juice .
* Clean and slit the brinjals.
* Add them to the tamarind juice.
* Add the masala powder and salt
* Cook till brinjals are cooked.
* Add the rice to the brinjal curry. Mix well and serve hot.
